A Young Striker From Sikkim

Amon Lepcha a teenager from Sikkim is making some steady progress in football at the capital of Meghalaya, Shillong. This boy from Pakyong is already in Lajong FC senior team. As most of us are aware Lajong is one of the top clubs from the North East.

Recently Amon was part of the Lajong FC team which lifted the Shillong Premier League Trophy. When asked about his experience so far He gave a short answer "It has been a really exciting and  challenging journey for me so far but I am enjoying it and working hard." said Amon.

He also added that he attended the India Under-16 camp in August but could not make it to the final team with a tinge of sadness. But Amon is still very young and he should get more such opportunities in future.

Amon started playing football when he was 11 years old but made quick progress. His first taste of organized football was at the winter coaching camp he attended in Pakyong. This camp proved beneficial for the youngster and soon he was playing in school level Under Class V tournaments representing St Xaviers School.

Amon considers his father Mr Augustine Lepcha his role model. "He always motivates and supports me. It's always nice to have such a father who stands by me no matter what". Said Amon remembering his father. He also quickly  added that his mother Mrs Rakhi Rai has also always stood like a pillar for him.

"In my rather short football career till now I have been lucky to meet so many wonderful coaches and they have inspired me a lot". Amon remembered. He also added that the coaches have also taught him to become a displined person which is vital for anyone who wants to became a successful professional footballer.

Before joining Shillong Lajong FC he was at the Sports Academy of Sikkim in Gangtok where he learnt a lot about football from his coaches and the team mates and became more confident about his game. "I also want to thank everyone at the Sports Academy of Sikkim for their support And I hope they will keep supporting me in future as well." added Amon. Currently Amon is preparing for the Under-18 I-League and hopes to do well for his team Lajong FC.

As most of the young footballers Amon dreams of wearing the Senior National teams jersey one day and make his parents, family and friends proud. If he does not there will be many more people proud of him in the football crazy state of Sikkim. Amon Lepcha has started off well now all he needs is to keep on working hard and playing well.
