Sanju Pradhan inspires the young

 

International footballer, Sanju Pradhan who is now with Punjab FC shared his inspirational football journey and other aspects of the game with some of the young players of his village, Sombaria and explained many points to them. Sanju has also been training with these boys regularly.

It was a lucky day for the young players of Sombaria on Saturday as the former East Bengal Captain, Sanju Pradhan whom most of them refer to as Sanju daju or Sanju da shared his experience with the boys. It was raining but that did not stop him from giving this Pep Talk.

Sanju posted on his Facebook page “It was nice to interact with some younger players in my village and share with them my football journey and the experience I have gained over the years playing this game. Some of the boys are not very good at studies and I told them education is important but at the same time football can open up a lot of opportunities for them if they remain dedicated.”

He further added “ If not the top professional clubs these boys will have a lot of other options in Defence and Police Services along with a host of other Government Departments which offers seats for talented Sportspeople. This way they can do a lot for the country and also play their favourite Sports.”

Sanju always comes forward to help others and believes in giving back. He has already launched an Academy in 2013 and plans to build a hostel in the coming days where the boys from outstations can be accommodated. It's always nice to see professional players interacting with the young. Hope Sanju does more of these in future along with other players.

Long before the well known tournaments of our region which are doing so well in the present times, Rongo had started a Gold Cup football tournament in the 90s officially "KB Rai Memorial Gold Cup" organized by the Rongo Sporting Club. Hill Boys United- A Brief Story

Hill Boys United FC was originally launched at Kolkata in the year 2009 by a group of youth from the hills of Darjeeling and Sikkim. It included a mix of college students and some professionals working in different companies. Their common love for football had brought them together.  Every week the boys used to play matches with different local teams of Kolkata or with the students of other North Eastern States based in the city. Soon they realised it will be better to start a proper team and the Hill Boys United was formed.  Hill Boys United FC played in number of tournaments along with some friendly matches in the next few years. However the match which they always looked forward to was an exhibition match held annually with the prestigious Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CCFC). Chandra Kumar Rai, A Modest Coach

Chandra Kumar Rai a former British Army soldier is currently the coach of Share Football Club Kalimpong. He holds a coaching certificate from the prestigious Football Association of England. A man who is bent at serving the game of football in his home town, over the years he has turned down many offers from the Clubs across the country to be their coach. He has coached a generation of footballers from Kalimpong and his name is taken with respect in the hills. A very humble and down to earth person Chandra Kumar Rai does not like to talk too much about himself. Some people are surprised by his modest ways.  Doing is much more important to him than talking.
