Sanitization drive conducted by FC Melli


In consideration at this time due to COVID 19, the pandemic Football Club of Melli (FC Melli) has decided to sanitize the entire two wards of Melli Bazaar, South Sikkim under Melldara-Paiyong GPU. Three days long sanitization begins on 12.08.2020 till 14.08.2020.

Due to the close proximity with the Melli, West Bengal which has a number of COVID positive cases to 60, the club has taken a decision of complete sanitization of the bazaar at a meeting under the chairmanship of acting President Shri Nirmal Chettri. With the support and participation from the locals, the three days long program has been successfully done. FC Melli extends our gratitude and heartily thankful to all the players, members of the club, supporters, and the locals who stand with us during these hours.

The club would also like to express our gratitude towards the ADC (s) Namchi Shri Satyen Pradhan, Shri Sonam Karthak (JE) PHE Deptt. Namchi, Yuksum Breweries Limited Melli Bazar, Naya Bazar Jorethang Municipal Council, and Mellidara Agriculture Center for providing essential items for the program.

Long before the well known tournaments of our region which are doing so well in the present times, Rongo had started a Gold Cup football tournament in the 90s officially "KB Rai Memorial Gold Cup" organized by the Rongo Sporting Club. If I'm not wrong the first edition was held in 1991 & after continuing for few more years it never happened again. I hope when someone writes the history of football in the Darjeeling hills. Hill Boys United- A Brief Story

Hill Boys United FC was originally launched at Kolkata in the year 2009 by a group of youth from the hills of Darjeeling and Sikkim. It included a mix of college students and some professionals working in different companies. Their common love for football had brought them together.  Every week the boys used to play matches with different local teams of Kolkata or with the students of other North Eastern States based in the city. Soon they realised it will be better to start a proper team and the Hill Boys United was formed.  Hill Boys United FC played in number of tournaments along with some friendly matches in the next few years. However the match which they always looked forward to was an exhibition match held annually with the prestigious Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CCFC). Chandra Kumar Rai, A Modest Coach

Chandra Kumar Rai a former British Army soldier is currently the coach of Share Football Club Kalimpong. He holds a coaching certificate from the prestigious Football Association of England. A man who is bent at serving the game of football in his home town, over the years he has turned down many offers from the Clubs across the country to be their coach. He has coached a generation of footballers from Kalimpong and his name is taken with respect in the hills. A very humble and down to earth person Chandra Kumar Rai does not like to talk too much about himself. Some people are surprised by his modest ways.  Doing is much more important to him than talking.
