New Team, New Dream

In a ground near Siliguri at Kholachand Fapri called Lokenath Math, A group of boys can been seen training every morning. All of them are mostly under 23 years of age and harbours a collective dream of playing professional football one day.  These are the boys of relatively new outfit Bright Sporting Club which was started in 2018 in Siliguri.

From the touchline a young man can be seen watching anxiously. "I was always attracted to football but I didn't play too much but when I became old enough I started to think that there are so many talented players in Siliguri and they don't have the platform so I thought about starting this club so that these boys get a chance to show their talent." Said Kamish Roy who is the founder and most active member of the club.

He further added that he discussed this concept with few of his friends and dadas (Brothers) and all of them supported the idea and the club was started. "Yes we knew the journey ahead would be tough but we took the plunge as I think we had nothing to lose." said Kamish looking a bit nostalgic may be remembering the day when the club was launched. Actually they don't have an exact foundation date as it took sometime to take off but very soon they might have to think about it to celebrate the day when their collective dreams took wings.

Now within a short span of time the club has participated in number of tournaments in the region and its worth noting here that the boys won the very first tournament they participated in. Which was the Ektaisal Night Football Tournament. They had defeated Kanchajunga FC in the finals. After that they played in atleast 5 good tournaments in and around Siliguri. "We also got a chance to play in Nepal at Biratnagar though we lost the match our boys got some valuable experience playing with some International players." Informed Kamish showing some photos in his mobile.

The team is coached by Edison Kindo who is assisted by Biswajit Roy, Rana Roy, Badal Roy, Animesh Roy, Khokon Roy and Dawa Lama. Interesting thing is that all of this lads are also players so basically they are making the most of their limited resources. They don't get anything in return from the club but all of them are happy to help their own team. The club is run by these small group of people. They are yet to formally register the club and complete other formalities like forming an Executive body. "We will start working on that very soon and hope to settle all this by the end of this year." Said Kamish. Currently the club is running on the fees from its members and the donations they receive from good people from time to time.

There are  27 boys in the team from around the Siliguri area, some of them have even trained at Sail Football Academy, Bokaro and Sports Authority of India, Siliguri. These boys have brought a lot of stability to the team."Good thing about our boys is that they work hard and are very loyal to the club though they don't get much in return. They even refuse to go for hire or khep and always wants to play for Bright Sporting Club." Said Edison Kindo the head coach who also doubles up as a player. He has  passed AIFF-D Licence coaching course and is integral part of the set up.

Main stumbling block which is common to most of the clubs in our region or for that matter the country is the lack of sponsors which means they have to work with limited resources. But this has not deterred  Kamish and his team and a few weeks back a company named Athardip Network Pvt Ltd came forward and sponsored the teams jerseys which has been really helpful to the team.Even with tight budget they try to keep their players happy and recently distributed football boots to them.

The club has some really good players and they  plan to keep playing in different tournaments gaining experience and also taking the club forward. Football can change lives and it will be wonderful if the football Gods shower some blessings on this new club from Siliguri and as their name says make their future bright. Well we can say Bright Sporting Club at the moment is a club by the players of the players and for the players.
